Cost Tracking

Cost tracking turns your team's logged time into money, so you can answer questions like "How much did this feature cost to build and test?" and "What is our split between development and testing spend?" The cost reports are available to workspace administrators under Costs.

Costs are calculated from logged time multiplied by each member's hourly rate, in your workspace's currency.

How costs are calculated

  • Member rates — each member has an hourly rate in the workspace. Rates are effective-dated, so changing a rate does not rewrite the cost of time already logged.
  • Currency — each workspace has a single currency, set from your organization default when the workspace is created and locked once time has been logged.
  • Dev vs testing — each time entry is classified as development, testing, or other (based on what the time was logged against), so you can see where effort goes.
  • Estimated vs actual — where tasks have estimated hours, the reports compare the estimated cost against the actual logged cost and show the variance.

The cost reports

The Costs page has a filter bar (date range presets, custom dates, and a week/month/year view) plus a CSV export, and several tabs:

  • Overview — total cost with the development, testing, and other split, a trend chart, and your most expensive tasks and epics.
  • By scope — drill into a specific task, epic, or release and compare estimated versus actual cost.
  • By member — cost and hours per person, with rate history.
  • Dev vs testing — the balance of build versus test spend over time.
  • Rates — manage member hourly rates and view the workspace currency.

Who can see costs

Cost reports are limited to workspace administrators. Other members do not see the Costs page. The reports are read-only views over your existing time logs.
